General Summary:
The Equipment Manager will be in charge of all work study staff to run game day and equipment management throughout the season. They will work closely with the coaching staff to ensure all aspects of running a sport program are completed and all player equipment needs are met and satisfactory. They will be given work to complete within time tables as well as being given the responsibility to manage the equipment operations. Previous hockey and/or equipment experience preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate all equipment needs, assist with inventory, and offer an extra hand in assisting the coaching staff with all hockey operation duties. They will assist the coaches and student-athletes to develop a quality Men’s ACHA Division 1 hockey program that will be competitive on the ice and in the classroom.
Responsibilities Include:
Serve as the equipment manager for the team and its student-athletes, while serving as a university representative at designated functions for Men’s ACHA Division 1 Hockey. Essential tasks include but are not limited to the daily management of equipment, game day locker-room set-up, laundry, skate sharpening, and other related tasks as assigned during practices and games. This position seeks an individual who is willing to work, holds a strong attention to detail and organization skills, and completes tasks in a timely and appropriate manner. This position also requires availability during avid mornings, nights, and all weekends. Previous hockey and equipment management experience is preferred but not required.
Educational Components:
During this internship, the intern will become familiarized with the daily demands of a
highly engaged, team and game day operations. He/She will work in a dynamic team
environment where they will practice and hone his/her professional experience and
team skills in the areas of:
Educational aspects
Expanding intern's knowledge on topics of budgeting and management
Educate interns on facility, business and equipment operations
Managing student-athlete experience, using the data collected to improve over the season and future events
Detail-oriented and high organization
Making sure that the team has everything they need or may not need ready to go
at a moment's notice. This can be anything from fixing helmets, jerseys, skates
or anything else
Effective verbal skills
Communicating with the players and coaches, visiting teams, working to evaluate
tendencies they want and are looking for throughout the course of season
Time Management
The team has only a certain amount of time every day for practice and games so
the intern must be able to use their abilities of working effectively and in a time
concerning manner
Being able to come up with quick fixes and assisting the player(s) to where they
are able to continue practice/game without having to miss time
Technical skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft for tracking inventory, also tracking count of
broken sticks through the use of Microsoft excel.
